Exploited – Crimes Against Humanity: Season 11 |Episode 06 airs January 10, 2019

CHOOSING TO BE FREE OF SELF-CONDEMNATION

the-choice-new_book_coverResearchers will tell you that 70% of victims of sex trafficking have been previously sexually exploited. The most likely targets for pimps and pedophiles are foster kids, homeless, run away and pregnant teens and young people who are available and vulnerable on social media. These are kids that often struggle with self-worth and self-condemnation.

Working in this field for over ten years, I have often searched for solutions on how to provide prevention and intervention education for teens and parents so our precious kids do not end up being violated and become easy targets for sex trafficking. Having dealt with hundreds of parents of trafficking and sextortion victims tells me that it is critical that parents work through their own emotional traumas from childhood or marriage experiences so they do not pass their shame, guilt and feelings of condemnation onto their children.

This week’s show is based on the work of Dr. Edith Eger, a world-renowned psychologist dealing with trauma and PTSD and author of the book, “The Choice: Embrace The Possible.”

We will look at the impact of life events on our self-perception and more important how to reframe those life events so we are free of self-condemnation. We will talk about loss and how the blaming and depression ripples out into the family affecting the relationships with loved ones and children. We will provide tools offered by Dr. Eger that can help all of us overcome obstacles and learn to love ourselves and gain power for living a productive and healthy life. This show is an important show for parents of teenagers or anyone dealing with a life-time of shame, guilt and/or oppression.

natl-slavery-ht-prevention-month6

January is “National Slavery & Human Trafficking Prevention Month.”This national effort to raise awareness about the local and global problem of human trafficking has been going on for over a decade. In 2007 the U.S. Senate designated January 11th as the National Day of Human Trafficking Awareness, and in 2010 President Barack Obama officially declared January National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month.

Last year, President Trump continued this tradition with a proclamation that January should be a time for the U.S. to “recommit ourselves to eradicating the evil of enslavement.”

shame

OVERCOMING SHAME AND ADVERSITY

Many times, after I have spoken about technology and sexual exploitation at an event both men and women will contact me and share that they had been sexually violated as a child. This is far more common than most of us realize.  Most of these individuals have gone on in their lives and have become successful professionals, parents and citizens.  But they secretly carry the self- image of having been violated, of fearing they are less than.

Psychologists will tell us that shame is often generational. Children and teens will absorb shame-based behaviors from their parents making them much more likely to become victims of physical or virtual sexual exploitation. When we internalize an inferiority, it will be difficult to find a sense of worth and identity.

What Happens When Your Child’s First Sexual Experience is a Virtual Sexual Experience?

We are entering a time of the greatest societal experiment ever. Soon the entire world will be connected by the internet and yet every day parents give phones and tablets to very young kids, who access apps, live-streaming and video game chat rooms BEFORE they have even had the “SEX” talk with them. And now, most of our kids’ first sexual experience will be with someone over the internet (someone they have never met in person) or will be based on animation or virtual pornography. It will most likely be sex without love and outside the context of relationship and commitment. It is also complicated by new technologies where virtual photos and videos are forever.

This week we will look at the impact virtual sex has on children and how it will change their sexual identity FOREVER.

Pimp Methodologies (Part 2)

Deandre Stanfield, 38, (above) is one of 16 members of the southwest Fresno Dog Pound gang who have pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to charges involving conspiracy to murder, human trafficking, gun and drug possession, and credit card fraud that ripped off businesses in Fresno and elsewhere of more than $3 million.

There is a lot of discussion these days about human trafficking, what it looks like, why it is happening, how it happens and, of course, how to stop it. Million Kids has been a leader in the prevention and intervention of both labor and sex trafficking since 2008.

All too often the public’s perception of how human trafficking works is based on one survivor’s story or a documentary. Each and every one of those stories is critical because it gives a real life perspective in understanding how a person can easily become a victim. But, we must not limit our understanding to one scenario or message.

Sex trafficking is a broad and complex issue where perpetrators use a myriad of tactics and seductive approaches. During today’s show we will begin to dissect the details of how sociopathic individuals access, seduce and violate their victims into the tragic world of sex trafficking.

Types of Pimping Tactics:

  • Romeo/Boyfriend Pimping
  • Gorilla Pimping (Male)
  • Gorilla Pimping (Female)
  • Gang Pimping
  • CEO Pimping
  • Madam Pimping
  • Foreign National Pimping
  • Family Pimping
  • Family/Cartel Pimping
  • Sugar Daddy or Chicken Hawk Pimping

HT-Arrest

The Anatomy of an Anti-Human Trafficking Task Force

Combating human trafficking requires the collaborative effort of trained specialists working together to conduct law enforcement investigations, advance prosecutions, provide prevention and intervention programs while at the same time assessing and providing a broad range of services needed to rehabilitate victims of trafficking. It is critical that all participating agencies be educated in successful anti-trafficking efforts and develop a coordinated plan within each community.

This show will educate you about how task forces are formed, the role of each collaborating agency, including local law enforcement, federal law enforcement agencies, federal prosecutors, District Attorneys, departments of social services, public health, mental health and local offices of education, while also working closely with shelters and safe houses to address the needs of victims.

The information in this show is critical for all first responders and social services personnel to understand how to develop and implement a successful anti-human trafficking task force in your community.
